The SOUND OFF PROGRAM creates a safe area for all drivers and pedestrians. By giving this audible signal, drivers are able to warn everyone nearby that they plan on moving their vehicle.
HONK before you begin moving any PPL project-related vehicle and all equipment. No exceptions!
Complete a Take 5 before starting any task, during the task when there is a change in work or environment conditions, or when you're not feeling secure in what you are doing. TAKE 5! You are our most valuable asset and regardless of progress considerations, there is NEVER anything more important than our team's health and well-being.
1) STOPBefore you carry out an assigned task, take a moment to stop and make sure you’re following the proper project protocol: PPE, Operator Competency forms, Equipment Checklists, JSA’s are properly completed, etc.
2) THINKThink through the different steps that are necessary to safely complete the task.
3) OBSERVEIdentify any current or potential hazards that may jeopardize the safety of yourself or the crew. Look close, look wide, look for the hidden! Confirm that all measures to complete the task safely are being followed including, where applicable, The Green Hand program, proper flagging procedures, 50 Foot Rule, BBSO cards properly filled out daily, Sound Off Before You Move, etc.
4) PLANTake control measures and verify them. All employees have
Stop Work Authority (SWA) and are obligated to implement it to make necessary changes when a perceived unsafe condition or behavior may result in an unwanted event. If an employee is unsure, always check with a supervisor.
